August! That means Autumn is next!

August 2022

Congratulations to Annette Hayes for winning First Place Quilt at the New Braunfels Quilt Fest Last weekend!

I was privileged to custom quilt "My Blue Quilt" for her and we are all so excited about her prize!

Plus, she won the raffle quilt!  Annette is on a roll!

This has been a slow, hot summer!  I think we are all a little tired of the heat and concerned about the water shortage.  Let's get a little distraction and make beautiful fabric creations!

We have lots of classes planned for the Fall, plus Fall Frolic Shop Hop is coming in September.  Make your plans and let's Hop the Hill Country!  Our theme is Fall in Love with Quilting.  You will be finding some great free patterns for Fall projects.  Can't wait to show you ours!

Do you know any children who would enjoy after school sewing classes?

We start again in September, each Friday from 4-6, where they will learn more and more sewing skills as they make beautiful projects and become proud of their accomplishments.

Cassidy is showing us her sewing projects she has made after sew camp this summer.  She loves this band and is making the band member dolls!

How much is my "antique" quilt worth?

It would have to be appraised by a certified quilt appraiser, but if you have an old quilt and it needs repair and you want it for monetary value, leave it be because its value is based on the newest thread/fabric added to it.  If you add thread repairing it, it is no longer valued as an old quilt.

But if you want it for sentimental value, you can make repairs if you want.  Finding someone else to do it is very difficult, because it is very time consuming and you have to use older laundered fabrics so it won't shrink differently when laundered.

I don't normally recommend repairs and next is why...

Letter from Linda...

Things... what to do with things? We hear the Marie Kondo "Does it bring joy?"

I have this old double wedding ring quilt that my late husband's grandmother or great grandmother created. It's beautiful, but it's tattered and worn. Many people come in and want us to restore old quilts. But I've come to feel that other than a tear or a worn binding, that we need to just appreciate them for what they are and who made them, not try to make them immortal. LOL I could patch and re-bind it, but the tatters are memories of the love and comfort this quilt gave others. So, I drape it over the back of my chair and love looking at it each time I enter the room.

I recently had my 63rd birthday and no one can repair my tatters and worn spots. I hope they love me just the way I am.

What can I do with an old quilt?

Repurposed old quilts can become…

1.Pillows

2.Table Runners

3.Teddy Bears and Other Stuffed Animals

4.Christmas Ornaments and Stockings

5.Home Displays

6.Handbags and Purses

7.Clothing

8.Placemats and Pot Holders
