One Block Wonder

Come join us for this exciting and unusual method of designing and creating quilts.  Instead of starting with a particular pattern or design and then trying to find a fabric that will fit the pattern, this approach begins with the fabric.  Kaleidoscope blocks are produced by aligning the printed design on several layers of fabric and then cutting and sewing triangles together, making hexagon shaped blocks.  The fabric contains all the colors and all the design elements.  The quilt evolves as the hexagon blocks are strategically placed to become a quilt that has more energy and movement than the original fabric.  Easy and so much fun!

  • *4 1/2 yards of fabric if your fabric has a 24" repeat or 3 yards of fabric if your fabric has a 12" repeat (come in to ask for help with this, but basically you need 6 repeats of fabric).  The larger the repeat, the larger to quilt.
  • *60 degree ruler, optional materials includes the Clearview Super 60 Triangle that is a combo ruler for more uses.
  • *Flat flower head pins (at least 2 packages)
  • *Sewing machine in good working order (remember your power cord, foot pedal, etc.)
  • *Basic Sewing Tools (scissors, seam ripper, thread, bobbins)
  • *1/4 inch quilting foot for your machine
  • *Rotary cutter (45mm or 60mm) with a BRAND NEW BLADE for cutting through 6 layers of fabric
  • *Your own 36" cutting board (optional, but recommended)
  • *6 x 24 ruler (or similar size)
  • *a small ruler
  • *pint size baggies to help organize fabrics
