Fabric Collage Class

Learn to make a Collage quilt using Laura Heine, Emily Taylor and Susan Carlson techniques.

Purchase your pattern and fabrics from the Studio for a 10% discount.  10% Discount on anything day of class.
Each pattern has suggested amounts of Steam-a-Seam 2 to purchase.  Prep of fabric ahead of class makes it go easy.  You will adhere the fusible to the backs of your collage fabrics and begin cutting out as many shapes or strips as you'd like.  You'll need more than you think you will.  We have a Sizzix Die Cutter available to use.  We'll teach you how to use it.  It also makes cutting go quicker.  We prefer and suggest a light cotton instead of the Pattern Ease the designer uses.  Must order your pattern a couple of weeks in advance if we don't have it in stock.  We do keep many of them in stock, though.

Please come into the shop for preparation instructions at least one week prior to class day.
Optional 2nd day to finish project on March 14.

Requirements: Laura Heine Pattern, many choices available. We also carry patterns by Leslie McNeil of Marveles Art Studio. Choose a wide variety of fabrics in prints and colors desirable for you pattern choice. Lightly press Steam-a-Seam 2 on the back of fabrics (tacky side to back of fabric by hand or lightly press leaving one paper side adhered. You can then precut fabrics with small serrated scissors, fussy-cutting flowers and other motifs or in the case of "Painterly" patterns using narrow strips, you can precut strips. Choose your foundation fabric (we recommend the light cotton instead of voile or pattern-ease) and you can trace pattern lines to the foundation using any pen or pencil. No other markings on fabric are needed. If you have any questions about this process, please call or come in to the Studio. You don't have to do this prep work, but it will make your class day progress much quicker. We have a Sizzix with die-cut shapes available to use in class and this will make it easier to move ahead and offer other design choices for you motifs. All instruction will be given on day one and you can leave your project on the table and continue on day two.
